A personal, meaningful farewell, created with care
Hello, I'm Paula.
I’m a Funeral Celebrant, based in Bebington, Wirral, and I feel incredibly privileged to be invited into people’s lives at one of their most difficult and emotional times.
My journey into this role began through my own experiences of loss. I came to understand just how important a funeral ceremony can be – not simply as a way of saying goodbye, but as an opportunity to remember, reflect, share memories and celebrate the life of someone who meant so much.
I wanted to be able to offer other families that same sense of care and meaning.
Getting to know you, and the person you love
I believe that every person is unique, and every funeral should be too.
There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye. Some families want a traditional service, others want something more personal, informal or uplifting. Some may want religious elements, while others prefer a completely non-religious ceremony. Whatever feels right for you, I will work with you to create a service that reflects your wishes and, most importantly, reflects the person you are remembering.
I take the time to listen.
Often, families initially tell me, “I don't really know what to say,” or “We haven't got much to tell you.” But with gentle guidance and conversation, memories begin to emerge – the stories, little quirks, funny moments, achievements, family traditions and the things that made their loved one who they were.
Families have told me that they have been amazed by how I can take their sometimes scattered memories and weave them together into something beautiful and meaningful. Others have said that talking through those memories helped them reconnect with the good times at a point when grief felt overwhelming.
That is one of the parts of my role I value most. Helping families find their voice. their memories and the heart of the person they love.
Your anchor on the day
I understand that, on the day of a funeral, families can feel nervous, emotional and unsure about what is going to happen.
My role is not only to conduct the ceremony, but to be your anchor in the chapel – someone you can trust to guide you through each moment and reassure you that everything is being be taken care of.
This is your final opportunity to say goodbye to someone you love, and I never lose sight of the importance of that.
Preparation and communication matter deeply to me. Before the day, we will talk through the service together, explore the choices available to you and discuss anything that may help you feel more comfortable. My aim is for you to feel confident, supported and fully aware of what will happen, knowing that your loved one’s farewell is in safe, steady hands.
Wherever you are in your journey
I conduct funeral ceremonies across the Wirral, Chester, Liverpool and North Wales, and I would be honoured to support you in creating a meaningful, personal farewell for someone you love.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you reach out to me. You may not know what you want yet, or even where to begin, and that is completely okay.
Sometimes, you simply need someone to listen.
And that's where we can start.
A little about me
Before becoming a celebrant, I worked as a Team Leader in legal finance. Although it may seem very different from what I do now, it gave me skills that I rely on every day – attention to detail, organisation, clear communication and the importance of thorough preparation. These strengths now form an essential part of how I support families and create ceremonies with care.
I have also always been someone who is there for the people I love. Supporting friends and family through life’s challenges has always felt natural to me, and becoming a celebrant has allowed me to bring that same compassion and empathy into my work.
I’m also a wife and mum. My husband, Simon, and our two children have supported me throughout my journey as a celebrant, just as we have supported one another through our own experiences of loss.
I’m very proud of the family we have, and I believe those experiences have shaped the person and celebrant I am today.
Always learning, always preparing
I trained with Prestige Funeral Training, where I developed my practical and written skills in creating and conducting funeral ceremonies, alongside learning about funeral etiquette and the importance of supporting families appropriately.
Their continued support has been incredibly valuable to me, and I recently returned to complete a refresher course because I believe that learning should never stop.
I have also completed specialist training with Child Bereavement UK, including courses focused on supporting families following sudden loss and infant loss.
I believe that being a good celebrant means continually developing your knowledge and understanding, so that you can provide families with the best possible support when they need it most.
Real, genuine and completely human
If I had to describe what makes me different, I think I would simply say: I'm me.
I'm real. I'm genuine. I'm approachable. I'm normal(ish)!
I don't believe you need someone who stands at a distance and simply delivers a script. You need someone who will listen to you, understand you, guide you and genuinely care about getting it right.
I know that everyone grieves differently, and I will never make assumptions about how you should feel or what your funeral should look like.
I will listen to what matters to you, help you find the words when they are difficult to find, and go above and beyond to create a ceremony that feels right for your family.
Whether your farewell is quiet and reflective, full of laughter and stories, traditional and religious, or completely personal and non-religious, it should be yours.
My role is to help you create it.
